County Crisis Alternative Response and Engagement Team Launches

Tompkins County Whole Health and the Sheriff’s Office are announcing a newly created law enforcement and mental health co-response team called the Crisis Alternative Response and Engagement (CARE) Team. The CARE Team will be piloted this year with funding for Licensed Clinical Therapist positions (applications open through May 1 ,2023) and a Sheriff’s Deputy position dedicated to the program.

Sheriff: Unarmed Pilot Program, Civil Service Test Upcoming

Sam Pulliam and Tara Richardson (photos available here) have started in their full time roles as Sheriff’s Clerks, where they will manage calls under a pilot program to respond to certain non-emergency calls for service.

TCSO is recruiting for Sheriff’s Deputies and offering a civil service exam in September for those interested.

Public Forum: Sheriff's Unarmed Pilot Program, Reimagining Pub. Safety

The Tompkins County Sheriff's Office will hold a virtual public forum on Tuesday, June 21 at 12pm. The forum will detail the elements of the unarmed pilot program, introduce the Sheriff’s Clerks who will handle the calls included in the pilot program, and answer questions from the community.

County Sheriff's Office Releases Details on Unarmed Pilot Program

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) is announcing a pilot program to respond to certain non-emergency calls for service with unarmed Sheriff’s Clerks. The unarmed responses may be handled via telephone or in-person depending on the nature of the call. This pilot program is a Tompkins County Reimagining Public Safety plan and is being led by the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office.
