March 6, 2025 - Drug/Warrant/Weapons Arrest

On March 6th, 2025 Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Atwater Road in the Town of Lansing after observing a 2012 Chrysler van operating with Improper Plates, or switched tags.  Deputies spoke with the driver, Wendell Horton, age 43 of Ithaca.  At the conclusion of this investigation, Deputies arrested Horton and the two passengers, Michael C. Gilmore, age 30 of Ithaca and Garrett E. Ventura, age 40 of Ithaca.  They were charged with the following;

 

Wendell Horton was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree - Metal Knuckles with prior convictions (Class D Felony).  Horton was turned over to TC Jail for arraignment.

 

Michael C. Gilmore was arrested for a Violation of Probation Warrant, whereas Gilmore was given a sentence of probation from a previous arrest the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office had of him on June 7th, 2024.  In that arrest, Gilmore was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree (handgun) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor).  He had since violated the terms of his sentence of probation leading to the warrant.  Gilmore was additionally charged with False Personation (Class B Misdemeanor) and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) when drugs were located in his sock prior to being brought into the Tompkins County Jail.  Gilmore was turned over to TC Jail for arraignment.

 

Garrett E. Ventura was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) and Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the Second Degree - Scales/Packaging (Class A Misdemeanor) Ventura was released on appearance ticket.
Also, during their investigation Deputies learned the whereabouts of another subject that held warrants from their office.  Christy M. Sheils, age 41 of Ithaca was located at an apartment in Milton Meadows, Robins Way in the Town of Lansing.  Sheils held a Tompkins County Superior Court warrant for her arrest for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree.  She too was arrested and turned over to the Tompkins County Fail where she was remanded.
