The Tompkins County Board of Elections has published a booklet with portraits of staff and poll workers from the 2024 General Election Day. The booklet celebrates the people who help make local elections possible and encourages the public to consider becoming a poll worker.

A digital copy of the booklet is available on the Board of Elections website. Printed copies are available at the Board of Elections office at 128 E. Buffalo St, Ithaca and will be made available to community partner organizations to distribute.

In Tompkins County more than 300 people are needed to work as election inspectors and operate the polls on Election Day. Poll workers are paid for their time, are needed for just a few days each year, and must be 17 or older and registered (or pre-registered if under 18) as a Democrat or Republican. Republican Elections Commissioner Alanna Congdon stated, “I’m so glad that we could capture portraits of our colleagues on Election Day this year. We held a successful election and that was only possible because of the hundreds of staff and poll workers who care deeply about making democracy work. I hope this project will inspire new poll workers and lifelong voters in Tompkins County.”

Democratic Election Commissioner Steve DeWitt stated, “I’m very proud of what we do for elections in Tompkins County. We have great and committed people and this is a unique way to highlight the work they do and encourage people to get involved.”
