Municipal Youth Services System (MYSS)

Mission Statement

The Tompkins County Municipal Youth Services System (MYSS) is committed to providing opportunities for underrepresented and underserved youth to deal successfully with the challenges of adolescence. By building partnerships, communities can offer diverse, cost-effective programs that strengthen and support young people.

History

The MYSS was created in 1988 by the County Legislature to provide funds to all local municipalities as an incentive to stimulate the planning, provision, and coordination of local youth development services. The intent of the funding is to support programming to meet locally identified youth development needs.

Musts

A Municipality must:

  • Designate a local planning group that identifies local youth needs and develops program priorities.
  • Match county & state funding. Public and/or private sources can be utilized.
  • Funds may not be used for recreation programs.
  • Fees may be charged but no youth can be turned away for inability to pay.
