Tompkins County Whole Health (TCWH) is alerting the customers of the West Danby Water District that the Boil Water Order issued Thursday February 20th has been lifted, effective Sunday, February 23, 10:00 AM. It is no longer necessary for customers to boil their tap water or to use bottled water for drinking or cooking. The tap water is now safe to use.

Water district officials in West Danby worked closely with TCWH to repair the leak and restore adequate pressure to the water distribution system. Chlorination has been restored, and multiple rounds of water testing have been conducted to ensure safe drinking water for customers. The leak in the water system was found and repaired on Thursday evening and testing for bacteria occurred Friday and Saturday. The completed tests demonstrated an absence of coliform bacteria in the distribution system, allowing the boil water order to be lifted.

Customers who may have consumed the impacted water without first bringing it to a rolling boil during the Boil Water Order period are advised to continue to monitor for symptoms of illness. Harmful bacteria in drinking water may cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches, or other symptoms. Additional risk is possible for infants, elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems. If you experience any of these symptoms and they continue or worsen, contact your healthcare provider for assistance.
