Medical Director, Mental Health

There is currently one position available in the title of Medical Director - Mental Health in the Tompkins County Mental Health Department. This is a full time provisional, 40 hour per week position. $299,000 Annual Salary. Residency waived.

The Medical Director of Mental Health will provide out-patient and emergency service assessments and treatment as required by the Commissioner of Mental Health Services. They will perform psychiatric consultation with individual patients, provide emergency medical and psychiatric services, as well as psychiatric consultations, examination and emergency backup for law enforcement agencies and courts within the county. The Medical Director will perform court evaluations as requested and order hospital commitments as indicated. They will apply psychiatric expertise to the planning, coordination and operation of the mental health, substance use disorder and developmental disability services provided within Tompkins County. The employee will make recommendations to the Commissioner of Mental Health towards attaining an effective and comprehensive community mental health, substance use disorder and developmental disability program. He or she will assist the Commissioner of Mental Health Services in direct services and duties of the Local Government Unit. The incumbent exercises general supervision over Psychiatrists and various program directors.

Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry

The successful candidate will work as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team which includes psychiatrists, therapists, community mental health nurses and rehabilitation specialists to provide excellent, comprehensive behavioral health treatment to a diverse range of individuals. An interest in community mental health and working with the severe and persistently mentally ill would be welcome. TCWH prioritizes both supervision and training and these will be provided to a successful candidate so as to support their practice in the Clinic and further career development.   • Administer injections, draw blood, perform AIMS assessments, and monitor health.
  • Manage a caseload of 125+ clients, providing 1:1 counseling, skill-building, and leading groups in the clinic and community.

The preferred candidate will be a Registered Nurse with 3+ years of inpatient or outpatient mental health experience and a strong passion for supporting individuals with serious mental illness (SMI) and co-occurring disorders.

Licensed Clinical Therapist - Children & Youth Team

TCWH Mental Health Services is looking for a licensed clinical therapist to be a part of our children and youth team. The children and youth team provides assessment and treatment for children and youth from birth forward and their families.  Services are provided at the clinic as well as in area schools. Clinicians on the children and youth team are also able to serve adult clients as needed.

Choosing to join us would mean participation in a multidisciplinary team that consists of psychiatrists and nurse practitioners, nurses, peer specialists, and other licensed clinical therapists. TCWH provides ongoing training for all clinicians as well as weekly individual and group supervision. In addition, you will be eligible to explore loan forgiveness through the HRSA program. Licensed Clinical Therapist - Forensics Unit

TCWH Mental Health Services is looking for an individual who has interest in working with the Forensics population within a Clinic mental health setting. The Forensics unit collaborates with County Alternatives to Incarceration Courts and provides treatment to sex offenders, domestic violence offenders, drug treatment court participants as well as individuals referred by probation, Federal probation and parole. Licensed Clinical Therapists who value Forensics work and have a willingness and compassion to work with clients involved in the criminal justice system are encouraged to apply.
