Criminal Investigation Division (C.I.D.)
The Criminal Investigation Division of the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office is responsible for investigating felony-level crimes including homicide, robbery, burglary, sex offenses, high-level assaults, narcotics violations, and crimes against children.
Additionally, C.I.D. is responsible for all crime scene processing, photography, and forensic evidence gathering and handling. C.I.D. has trained Investigators in the fields of crime scene investigation, interview and interrogation, fire scene investigation, photography, and child sexual abuse investigation.
During large scale criminal investigations, C.I.D. often works in collaboration with other area law enforcement agencies in order to pool resources and more effectively solve a crime.
