Shots Fired- January 25, 2019

On January 25, 2019, the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Econo Lodge located at 2303 N. Triphammer Road in Ithaca, NY for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, deputies located bullet holes in a room at the hotel. Deputies then located and identified a male subject by the name of Paul M. Coughlin Jr., age 48 of Kennebunk, ME, who was a guest at the hotel. Coughlin was found to be in possession of a Benjamin Bulldog .357 High Powered Air-Rifle and Molotov Cocktail.

As a result, Coughlin was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree (Class D Felony) and Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) for discharging of the above listed Air-Rifle inside of the hotel.

Coughlin was arraigned in the Town of Dryden Court by Judge Clauson and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $5,000 (cash) or $10,000 (bond).
