Felony DWI/Criminal Impersonation Arrest

On November 10, 2019 at 3:15 AM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies stopped a white Chevrolet sedan on Dryden Road (SR 366) in the Town of Dryden, after the vehicle showed to be suspended for insurance lapse and showed to have no insurance.

Deputies interviewed the driver, Nigell K. JOHNSON, age 38 of Ithaca, N.Y.  Johnson did not have identification on him and provided deputies with a fictitious name and date of birth. During the course of the investigation, Deputies observed signs of impairment and conducted a DWI Investigation, which ultimately lead to JOHNSON's arrest.  Initially, JOHNSON was charged with Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (Unclassified Misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class A Misdemeanor) - Two Counts, Operating with a Suspended or Revoked Registration (Unclassified Misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of Marihuana (Violation), Unregistered Motor Vehicle (Traffic Infraction) and Operating with out Insurance (Traffic Infraction).

The following day, Deputies learned that JOHNSON provided a false name.  After discovering his true identity, he was contacted and rearrested.  JOHNSON was then charged with the following updated charges; Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (Class E Felony), Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree (Class E Felony), Criminal Impersonation in the Second Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A Misdemeanor) - two counts, Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument (Class A Misdemeanor) Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs (Unclassified Misdemeanor), Operating a Motor Vehicle While Suspended or Revoked (Unclassified Misdemeanor),  Operating out of Ignition Interlock Restriction (Unclassified Misdemeanor), Unlawful Possession of Marihuana (Violation), Unregistered Motor Vehicle (Traffic Infraction), Operating with out Insurance (Traffic Infraction), Unlicensed Operator (Traffic Infraction) and Unregistered Motor Vehicle (Traffic Infraction).

Johnson was released on appearance tickets ordering him again to return to the Town of Dryden Court on December 2, 2019 at 5:00 PM.
