Car/Pedestrian Crash

On January 14, 2020 at about 5:10 PM, Tompkins County Sheriff's Deputies responded to 903 Mitchell Street in the Town of Ithaca for a personal injury motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.  Subsequent to an investigation, deputies determined that a 2012 Volkswagen was traveling east on Mitchell Street and failed to stop for a pedestrian who was walking across the Mitchell Street crosswalk in a southerly direction.  The Volkswagen struck the pedestrian while the pedestrian was in the crosswalk.
 
Deputies identified the driver of the Volkswagen as Marguerite C. LAYTON, age 85 of Ithaca, NY.  LAYTON was not injured in the crash and was subsequently charged with failing to yield right of way to a pedestrian (Violation).  The extent of injuries to the pedestrian are unknown and the pedestrian was airlifted to a local trauma center.
 
The New York State Police, Ithaca Fire Department and Bangs Ambulance assisted on scene .
