Volunteer for the Health Department’s Public Health Emergency Exercise

On Tuesday, March 31, the Tompkins County Health Department will test its capacity to dispense medications to at least 250 people in less than two hours. This Point of Dispensing (POD) exercise will take place at BOCES on Warren Road between 1:00 and 2:15 p.m.

In a public health emergency, it may be necessary to dispense medications to everyone in Tompkins County within a very brief period of time. To ensure the success of this emergency preparedness drill, the TCHD invites community members to participate. Pre-register at http://www.tompkinscountyny.gov/health/POD

Participants will go through the process of arriving at the site and receiving the (mock) medication for themselves and their household. This drill provides an opportunity for community members to learn about the role that the Health Department in a public health emergency. 

Participants are encouraged to register ahead of time at the Department’s website to shorten wait times and to help test pre-registration capacity. Volunteers are also welcome to show up at BOCES between 1:00 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. without pre-registering.
