Tourism Grants Workshop January 24th

There will be a Tourism Grants Workshop on Monday, January 24th, 3:00-5:00 pm., at the Ithaca/Tompkins County Convention and Visitors Bureau at 904 East Shore Drive, 2nd floor. Pre-register for the workshop by sending an email to jkippola@tompkins-co.org .

Grants programs to be discussed include:

Community Celebrations - This grant program is designed to provide assistance to events, programs, or series of events endorsed by a municipality that are free and open to all, and are planned by community members as a benefit to the community. Grant ceiling: $2,000. Total funds available for 2011: $26,600.

Tourism Marketing and Advertising - These grants are designed to provide a dollar for dollar match for marketing and advertising expenses for campaigns that target potential tourists likely to result in an overnight stay. Grant ceiling: $5,000. Total funds available for 2011: $50,699.

Tourism Projects - This grant category supports tourism-generating single projects that are produced by not-for-profit organizations that have been active for at least three years. These grants provide support to help organizations attract a broader audience whose visit is likely to result in an overnight stay. Grant ceiling: $25,000. Total funds available for 2011: $62,017.

New Tourism Initiatives - This grant category supports tourism-generating single projects that are produced by not-for-profit organizations that have been active less than three years. These grants provide support to help organizations attract a broader audience likely to result in an overnight stay. Grant ceiling: $25,000. Total funds available for 2011: $62,015.

Tourism Capital Grants - This grant category supports large scale tourism-related projects, specifically either bricks and mortar projects, or feasibility studies for buildings likely to become tourist attractions. Total funds available are dependent upon scale of project and multi-year funding.

Details and copies of current grant applications are available on the Tompkins County website at http://www.tompkins-co.org/ctyadmin/tourism. These grants are awarded by the Tompkins County Legislature and are funded entirely by Tompkins County Room Occupancy Tax dollars.
