Tompkins County Launches New Online Employment Application Process

Friday, August 19, 2011
To enhance customer service, Tompkins County Personnel is implementing a new online application process to provide an easier way to submit job applications. As of Tuesday, August 23, this secure website, https://www.tompkinscivilservice.org,will enable a job seeker to become a registered user and submit electronic applications for vacancies and examinations.

Once you have registered and your application is submitted, you will have the ability to

- Complete your application online once, with your information saved making additional submissions quick and easy;
- Attach resumes, transcripts etc.;
- Track your applications online;
- Have a complete history of previous applications;
- Be able to quickly submit new applications with a click of a button;
- Review your eligible lists;
- Check your exam scores;
- Complete the training and experience exams at the time of application;
- Sign up to receive e-mail notifications of new examinations and vacancies in your area(s) of interest as they are posted,
- Receive all correspondence via e-mail.

Applications are available for review in minutes rather than days, speeding up the hiring process.

Along with the new application process there will also be some changes to the County's examination program. As of September 1, the County will be able to conduct monthly testing in-house in its computerized testing facility (located in the Old Jail building at 125 E. Court Street, Ithaca) for select titles such as Keyboard Specialist, Account Clerk Typist, Sr. Typist, Clerk/Library Clerk, Caseworker, Public Health Technician, Mail Clerk, and Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator.

Recognizing that not everyone has access to a computer or the internet, the Personnel Department has dedicated two public computer terminals for this purpose. Personnel staff will be available to assist individuals who do not type, or do not have someone who will do it for them. The department will also work with the Tompkins County Public Library, Tompkins Workforce NY, and other community partners to ensure that job opportunities remain accessible to everyone.

Follow Tompkins County Personnel on Facebook to find information on examinations, final filing dates, vacancies, and outreach times and locations. Please call the Personnel Department at (607) 274-5526, with any questions or concerns about this new system.
