Tompkins County Community Mental Health Services Board Seeks Nominations for Recovery or Outstanding Service

Monday, April 19, 2010
In May, the Tompkins County Community Mental Health Services Board will hold a celebration event to recognize achievements in the areas of mental health, developmental disabilities and chemical dependency issues. The celebration will take place on Tuesday, May 25 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Ithaca Holiday Inn, 222 S. Cayuga Street. (Please save the date!)

The goal of this event is to highlight the system of care in our community and to recognize the accomplishments and service of individuals, families, programs and organizations, and to celebrate successes.

This year, along with presenting several awards, we will have Tom O'Clair, as our guest speaker. Mr. O'Clair is a leading parent advocate who was instrumental in getting Timothy's Law passed. Timothy's Law is New York State' groundbreaking parity law to ensure that mental health care is paid for by insurance companies in a manner that is similar to physical health care.

An important part of this event is to recognize individuals, programs and organizations in our community. The board invites you to submit a nomination recognizing accomplishments or contributions in the areas of mental health, developmental disabilities and/or chemical dependency issues.

The nominee may be someone who has used services, an individual service provider, a program/organization providing services, or a family member or community member in the areas mentioned above. The board is particularly interested in recognizing outstanding efforts in recovery, dedication to care and service, advocacy, community support/partnership and innovation.

The nomination form is posted at
