Powerful Tools for Caregivers

Friday, February 5, 2010
Are you caring for a spouse, a parent or loved one and feeling stressed emotionally, financially or physically due to the challenges of this care?

Many caregivers share a similar experience as they juggle the demands of work, family and caring for their loved one. Too often, in trying to meet the demands of all these interests, they neglect to care for themselves.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers, a six-week educational program designed to provide caregivers the tools needed for taking care of themselves will be offered this spring beginning. March 22nd.

During six, 2 hour sessions held weekly, caregivers learn to reduce stress, improve self-confidence, better communicate feelings, and access local resources. Attendees also learn how to balance the demands in their lives and to increase their ability to make tough decisions.

Three separate, six-week sessions of Powerful Tools for Caregivers will be available this spring at no cost to caregivers:

March 22-April 26, Mondays 6:00-8:30 PM
Lifelong, 119 W. Court St., Ithaca

March 23-April 27, Tuesdays 9:30- 12 noon
Kendall at Ithaca, 2230 N. Triphammer Rd., Ithaca

For Cornell Staff, Faculty, Retirees and/or Partners:

March 24 - April 28, Wednesday 5:00 -7:30 PM
Cornell University, 395 Pine Tree Rd., Ithaca

Pre-Registration is required - call Katrina Schickel at the Tompkins County Office for the Aging at 274-5491 ( to register or for more information about the Powerful Tools for Caregivers program.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is coordinated by the Tompkins County Office for the Aging, in partnership with Cornell University, Greater Ithaca Activities Center, Lifelong, and Tompkins County Department of Social Services.
