Inclement Weather Impacts Curbside Recycling Collection

Friday, February 6, 2015

With additional snow accumulation in the forecast, the Tompkins County Solid Waste Division advises residents there could be delays in the recycling collection schedule because of poor road conditions. Updates on the status of curbside collection will be posted on the Division’s website –

Residents can do their part to prevent additional delays and interruption of service by keeping their recycling bins accessible. When possible, please remove snow and extra material from around the bins. Please ensure the containers are placed in an accessible location, such as an area by the end of a driveway clear of the road or street. As much as possible, secure materials to protect them from windy conditions, and place bins on as level and hard a surface as possible.

Because of the range of severity and duration in weather disruptions, it is not possible to predict when a collection route might be completed. Residents should still set out material for their regularly scheduled pick up day, unless otherwise noted at Every effort will be made to return to a normal collection schedule as soon as the weather permits and allows for a safe pick up.

If residents feel their recycling was missed, after checking for updates on the website, please call the Solid Waste Division office at (607) 273-6632. The office is open from 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday thru Friday. Outside of those hours, please leave a message.

Residents also have the choice of using the Recycling and Solid Waste Center at 160 Commercial Avenue in Ithaca. The hours are Monday thru Saturday from 7am to 3:30pm. There is no charge to drop off recyclables at the RSWC.
