Presentations on two locally administered housing assistance programs will be featured at the next meeting of the Tompkins County Legislature’s Health and Human Services Committee on Monday, February 12. The meeting will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Legislature Chambers, located in the Governor Daniel D. Tompkins Building, 121 E. Court Street (second floor), Ithaca.
Representatives of Tompkins Community Action, which administers the Housing Choice Voucher Program (more commonly known as “Section 8”), will provide an overview of the federal rental subsidy program and TCAction’s local process—including application, eligibility determination, housing search, leasing, and ongoing program requirements. Current barriers that applicants and voucher holders experience, as well as positive outcomes, will also be discussed.
Commissioner of Social Services Kit Kephart also will provide information on Temporary Housing Assistance and related support programs administered by the Department of Social Services; how housing is an element of the Department’s overall Temporary Assistance program; and other assistance programs that people may be able to use to support their housing needs.
