Holiday Recycling Reminders

Monday, December 30, 2013

Most municipalities have programs for recycling Christmas trees. Check with your city, town, or village for more information.

Christmas trees can also be brought to the yard waste area of the Tompkins County Recycling and Solid Waste Center (160 Commercial Avenue in Ithaca) at no cost. Please remove all decorations.

Wrapping paper can be recycled at the curb with the rest of your single stream materials. Please remember, no paper with foil, glitter or plastic coating.

As for holiday lights, string lights are recyclable, but not in your curbside bin. LED holiday lights are accepted for recycling at the Recycling and Solid Waste Center. At this time, we cannot recycle light strands with incandescent bulbs in them.
