Have a role in protection of water resources! Tompkins County Water Resources Council Seeks New Members

Friday, September 10, 2010
Are you concerned about protecting water resources and quality in Tompkins County? Want to utilize your passion and skills in water resource management to help our local legislature make informed decisions concerning ground and surface water management and protection? Residents of Tompkins County are invited to apply for membership on the Water Resources Council (WRC), an advisory board that provides input to the Tompkins County Legislature on environmental matters. Vacancies exist for terms beginning January 1, 2011.

Membership in this organization is a great opportunity for citizens to provide input into the decisions that are made about our local environment. For more information about the WRC, or to receive an application form, please contact the Tompkins County Planning Department at 274-5560, or pick up an application at 121 East Court Street, Ithaca, NY. Applications are also available online at: http://www.tompkins-co.org/legislature/advisory/.

Deadline for receipt of applications for Water Resources Council is September 16, 2007. The WRC has vacancies for representatives of the general public, municipal government, recreation and water purveyors. Meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 4:15 PM. Activities of the WRC include implementing a program to assess and protect ground and surface water resources in Tompkins County; providing assistance with new federal stormwater regulations; investigating the location and level of protection for local wetlands; and developing partnerships with local, region, and state agencies and organizations to foster more productive management of local water resources. You can learn more about WRC from their website: http://www.tompkins-co.org/planning/ click Advisory Boards and select Water Resources Council
