Forest Home Bridge Reconstruction Set to Begin. Public Meeting September 12

Friday, September 6, 2013
Tompkins County is planning to rebuild the one-lane, metal bridge on Forest Home Drive in the Town of Ithaca between Caldwell and Warren Roads beginning this fall.

A public information meeting is scheduled at the Forest Home Chapel at 222 Forest Home Drive, Thursday, September 12, at 7:00 PM to discuss impacts of the project on the community.

Economy Paving Company of Cortland has been awarded a contract for the work pending concurrence from New York State. The project will be largely funded through the federal Transportation Enhancement Program, with added shares coming from the state, the Town of Ithaca, Cornell's Community Transportation Initiative, and the County.

The project will preserve the bridge's historic look while providing new load carrying members, including a quieter, concrete deck. The existing pedestrian walk will be replaced in its current position and pedestrian facilities on the bridge approaches will be improved.

Construction is expected to begin this month or in early October with closure of the bridge. The bridge will remain closed until work is completed in August 2014. The County has hired Erdman Anthony, Inc. of Rochester to provide construction inspection.

The County invites everyone interested in the project to attend the public information meeting.
