"Encountering History:" Monthly Study Groups with the County Historian

Thursday, January 18, 2018

The Tompkins County Public Library announces the continuation in 2018 of “Encountering History,” a monthly program with Tompkins County Historian Carol Kammen. The group meets the second Thursday of every month in TCPL’s Tompkins Trust Company Study Room at 12:00 PM. The next meeting is Thursday, February 8, 2018.

In the sessions, Kammen presents documents from the county’s past for reading aloud and discussion. Participants are encouraged to think about what the documents meant at the time of their creation, and to discover what they might tell us here and now. The focus is on thinking historically and discovering the pleasure and knowledge of personal encounters with ordinary documents such as letters and diaries.

This ongoing program is free and open to the public, and registration is not required. For more information, contact Carol Kammen at ckk6@cornell.edu
