Religious Structures of Lansing

Lansing United Methodist Church

Lansing United Methodist Church, built in 1963 and expanded in 1987, had its beginnings in 1796 in two smaller churches, one that began at the home of Jonah Tooker a mile west of Ludlowville, the other at the home of Robert Alexander south of Lake Ridge.

By 1797 two meeting houses had been erected, one at Asbury and one at Teetertown (later Lansingville; this church burned in 1838). The Asbury Church, called the red church for the color it was painted, was built in 1811, burned in 1844, and was replaced by the present church building erected nearby that same year. The last service was held in 1962.
