Biting dog sought by TC Health Department

Incident at Upper Treman Park prompts search for owner

(ITHACA) The Tompkins County Health Department is trying to contact the owner of a dog that bit a woman carrying an infant in a front carrier walking on the Gorge Trail a quarter mile from Upper Treman Park. The incident occurred between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2008.

The biting dog is a male Australian Shepard that is grey, brown and white, with blue eyes. A family of a mother, father, two daughters and a son were walking the Australian Shepard along with a small female Sheltie that was reddish in color. The family drove off with the dogs in a white Subaru.

If the biting dog can be located and remains healthy until September 13, 2008, the risk of rabies infection can be ruled out and rabies post exposure shots will not be needed.

It is urged that anyone with information regarding this dog immediately call the Environmental Health Division at 274-6688.
