July 13, 2015

Tompkins County District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson today announced the sentencing of Edward Andre Alexander, 44, to 2 years in state prison for sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl on New Year’s Day in 2014. On April 30, 2015, Alexander was found guilty by a jury in Tompkins County Court of two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

As proven at trial, in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day in 2014, Alexander rubbed and squeezed the buttocks and genital area of a 12-year-old girl while she was sleeping in Alexander’s Dryden home. The defendant was a family friend of the girl’s parents who all had been at the defendant’s home celebrating New Year’s Eve. After the girl woke up, the defendant told her, “Don’t tell your dad.”

In addition to the sentence of 2 years in state prison, Alexander was also sentenced to a period of post-release supervision of 3 years by the New York State Division of Parole.

Assistant District Attorney Wendy Franklin prosecuted the case. Attorney Kelly Damm represented the defendant. The Dryden Police Department handled the investigation of the case.
