PRESS RELEASE / FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tompkins County District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson announced the trial conviction of Edward Andre Alexander, 44, for sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl on New Year’s Day in 2014. The defendant was found guilty by a jury in Tompkins County Court of two counts of Sexual Abuse in the First Degree and one count of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

As proven at trial, in the early morning hours of New Year’s Day in 2014, Alexander rubbed and squeezed the buttocks and genital area of a 12-year-old girl while she was sleeping in Alexander’s Dryden home. The defendant was a family friend of the girl’s parents who all had been at the defendant’s home celebrating New Year’s Eve. After the girl woke up, the defendant told her, “Don’t tell your dad.”

The jury deliberated for approximately three hours before reaching a verdict. The defendant faces up to seven years in prison on the top count. The date for sentencing has yet to be set.

Assistant District Attorney Wendy Franklin prosecuted the case. Attorney Kelly Damm represented the defendant. The Dryden Police Department handled the investigation of the case.
