PRESS RELEASE / FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson announced that Jeffrey M. Wood, 39, of Meadowbrook Lane in Newfield was sentenced today in Tompkins County Court on the charge of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals. He received a sentence of 120 days in Tompkins County jail, 5 years probation and restitution in the amount of $5, 016.

Mr. Wood pleaded guilty to Aggravated Cruelty to Animals in Tompkins County Court on Friday December 5, 2014.

Wood admitted that in the early evening on September 19, 2014, he shot his dog, Lilly, in the head twice and left her in his yard overnight. Lilly was found the next day in woods near the defendant’s yard seriously injured. She underwent multiple surgeries and is now blind.

The Hon. Joseph R. Cassidy presided over the plea. Assistant District Attorney Eliza Filipowski prosecuted the case; Jeffrey Wood was represented by attorney Paul S. Barton.
